This novel immerses Tadgh, Morgan, Aidan, Peader and the rest of the Clans in the beginning phase of the Irish Civil War which followed on the heels of the War of Independence in 1922. Michael Collins, Arthur Griffiths and their negotiating team sign the best deal they can get with Britain, the Anglo-Irish Treaty, in December 1921, which leaves the six north-eastern counties of Ireland under British rule. This is unacceptable to politician Eammon de Valera and many of his followers.
This breaks both the McCarthy and O’Donnell Clans ASUNDER causing heartache and danger for our valiant friends, as Tadgh and Morgan side with Tadgh’s leader Michael Collins and Aidan and Peader follow their hearts to free all of Ireland, opposing the treaty.
